WHY ME ?

Arthur Ashe, the legendary Wimbledon player was dying of AIDS.

From world over, he received letters from his fans, one of which conveyed

"Why does GOD have to select you for such a bad disease"?

To this Arthur Ashe replied:

The world over

50 Million children startplaying tennis,

5 Million learn to play tennis,

500,000 learn professional tennis,

50,000 come to the circuit,

5000 reach the grand slam,

128 reach Wimbledon,

4 to semi final,

2 to the finals,

When I was holding a cup I never asked GOD "
Why me ? "

And today in pain I should not be asking GOD "Why me ? "

HORSE OR WORLD , WHICH IS THE FASTEST?

A man bought a race horse and put him in a barn with a sign, "The fastest horse in the world." The owner didnot exercise the horse nor train it to keep it in good shape. He entered the horse in a race and it came last. The owner quickly changed the sign to "The fastest world for the horse."

By inaction or not doing what should be done, people fail and they blame luck.

SECRET OF SUCCESS

A young man asked Socrates the secret of success . Socrates told the young man to meet him near the river the next morning . They met .

Socrates asked the young man to walk with him toward the river. When the water
got up their neck, Socrates took the young man by surprise and ducked him into the water .

The boy struggled to get out , but Socrates was strong and kept him there until the boy turning blue. Socrates pulled his head out of the water and the first thing the young man did was to gasp and take a deep breathe of air.

Socrates asked "What did you want the most when you were there ?".

The boy replied ,"Air ."

Socrates said , " That is the secret of success .When you want success as badly as you wanted the air , then you will get it."

There is no other secret.

HOLDING UP OR DOWN ?

A boy was flying a kite with his father and asked him what kept the kite up .Dad replied, "The string ".The boy said , "Dad , it is the string that is holding the kite down."

The father asked his son to watch as he broke the string.

Sometimes the very things that we think are holding us down are the things that are helping us fly.

DO YOU KNOW WHICH MAKES YOU TO GO UP ?

There was a man who made a living selling balloons . He had all colours of balloons. Whenever business was slow , he would release a helium-filled balloon into the air and when the children saw it go up , they rush to him to buy . He continued this process all day . One day a little boy asked , "If you release a black balloon , would also that fly ?" . The man replied ," Son , it is not the colour of the balloon , it is what is inside that makes it go up."

The same thing applies to our lives . It is what is inside that counts .The thing inside of us that makes us go up is our ATTITUDE.

WHAT WILL YOU DO IF YOU READ YOUR NAME IN THE OBITUARY COLUMN ?

About a hundred years ago, a man looked at the morning newspaper and to his surprise and horror , read his name in the obituary column .

The newspapers had reported the death of the wrong person by mistake. His first response was shock. Am I here or there ? .

When he regained his composure , his second thought was to find out what people had said about him. The obituqry read , " Dynamite King Dies ." And also " He was the merchant of death ." This man was the inventor of Dynamite and when he read the words "Merchant of Death ", he asked himself a question , " Is this how I am going to be rembered ? ". He got in touch with his feelings and decided that this was not the way he wanted to be rembered. From that day on , he started working toward peace. His name was Alfred Nobel and he is remembered today by the great Nobel Prize.

POWER OF WORDS

A group of frogs were travelling through the woods and two of them
fell into a deep pit. When the other frogs saw how deep the pit
was, they told the two frogs that they were as good as dead. The
two frogs ignored the comments and tried to jump up out of the pit
with all their might. The other frogs kept telling them to stop,
that they were as good as dead. Finally, one of the frogs took
heed to what the other frogs were saying and gave up. He fell down
and died.

The other frog continued to jump as hard as he could. Once again,
the crowd of frogs yelled at him to stop the pain and just die. He
jumped even harder and finally made it out. When he got out, the
other frogs said, " Did you not hear us ? " . The frog explained to
them that he was deaf. He thought they were encouraging him the
entire time.

This story teaches two lessons:

1. There is power of life and death in the tongue. An encouraging
word to someone who is down can lift them up and help them make it
through the day.

2. A destructive word to someone who is down can be what it takes
to kill them.
